At only 22 years old, Lindsey Rose Roy is not only beautiful, but also incredibly talented. The Colorado Springs-based designer started making jewelry while working at a bead store in Monument. Paid by the inch, Roy learned to make necklaces and lanyards for the shop’s owners. After perfecting her craft, Roy started her own line of jewelry in the summer of 2009 called Lindseymade Originals.

Roy’s favorite pieces to create are necklaces, but I certainly hope she designs more earrings. Based on the photos above, she has an amazing eye for stylish and sophisticated dangles. Roy does an incredible job creating unique pieces in turquoise and her favorite color, purple. She even designs trendy steampunk and vintage styles, selling them to raise money for charity and pay for her studies at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs.
Despite running a successful jewelry business , Roy takes the field with the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders, works in the front lobby of the YMCA, dances Zumba and performs in a local community theater. She even finds time to hang with friends, play basketball, swim and bowl. In the little spare time she has left, Roy studies photography and takes in movies. She is a gamer, using her iPad, Nintento DS, laptop and Wii to play whenever she has some extra free moments.
Roy, who was born in 1990 with Down Syndrome, encourages everyone, including children and adults with Down Syndrome, to remember that they can do anything they desire if they work hard and believe in themselves. View her beautiful line of jewelry at www.lindseymadeoriginals.com.
Caleb’s mom is a hero to all in the Northeast Florida Down Syndrome community. She welcomed us into the DS family with open arms, and we are so grateful for her love and support. Caleb is 5.5 years old (well, almost 6, but mom is not ready to acknowledge that!). He is kind and incredibly active in sports like horse-back riding, swimming, soccer and baseball. He even does computer tutoring and after-school clubs — whew! He is one busy boy. Caleb’s favorite activity: Just Dance!! He is known around town as the next Tom Cruise (well, without the issues 🙂 Harrison is a big flirt. Down Syndrome doesn’t stop him from smiling at the ladies. His daycare teachers told me they had to separate Harrison from a new little girl who started in the baby room today because he kept kissing her! I guess Harrison is staking his claim on the new kid in class already 🙂 Harrison wants you to meet his friends. He’d like you to get to know as many children with Down Syndrome as possible. When we first found out that Harrison had DS, I searched the internet for information about the chromosomal “abnormality.” Around the same time, a noticed a colleague in the PR field was posting photos of a beautiful little girl with Down Syndrome on Facebook. After just a few messages on the social media site, we made a date to meet Molly, and I’m so glad we got to know this amazing little girl. Click the link below to read Molly’s story, the first in our series of profiles of Harrison’s Heroes. Let’s meet other children with Down Syndrome and show the world they are just like us. http://www.carriewithchildren.com/2010/10/down-syndrome-our-daughter-birth-announcement.html
